Title: Singular bouncing black holes: a new paradigm

Author: Ding Jia

Abstract: Restricting the gravitational field to the Lorentzian signature leads to new solutions from the action principle. Previous works have shown that the solutions bounce through singularity for cosmology and non-evaporating black holes. Here evaporating black holes are studied for collapsing null matter shells. Hawking radiation and backreaction are accounted by pair creation of thin-shells. In comparison to non-evaporating solutions, radiation removes an infinite time gap between inside and outside observers. After evaporation, all collapsing matter and radiation return to future infinity by bouncing at the singularity. For an outside observer at constant radius, the whole process takes twice the Hawking evaporation time plus linear and logarithmic correction terms. Unlike proposals for regular/nonsingular black holes, here singularities are accepted because spacetime can be continued through them without loss of predictability. Therefore there is no need to remove classical regions or inject quantum regions arbitrarily by hand. The singular solutions are directly derived from first principles, and may be interpreted either as classical solutions to the action principle under the Lorentzian constraint, or quantum saddle points that dominate Lorentzian gravitational path integrals. In the latter case, the bouncing saddle points contribute at leading order, dominating over any potential quantum tunneling effects.
